December 17, 2011
Hello again, and so the end of the
year approaches and I thought I would take this time to reflect on our
year in the industry gone by and also give you some indiciation into our
plans for 2012.
Firstly, the language of the title of this blog is in no way
coincidental. The Spanish Bank Santander do seem to be financing a lot
of our transactions at the moment and it is interesting to hear that
some of the smaller banks are seeking roads into the dental market in
2012. We have also seen a lot more of Barclays this year so could the
Healthcare Stalwarts of Natwest RBS and Lloyds TSB have some real
competition on their hands next year?
Secondly, the market remains fluid - if anything there are less
practices coming to market than last year. I mean this on an industry
level as oppose to a company level, we are still a new company and our
business is growing but spectators and buyers are commenting it is
quieter!
Thirdly, times are tough! Anyone that tells you the dental market is
immune is kidding themselves. There is no shortage of hungry buyers but
with banks having chartered valuations conducted prior to agreeing
finance it does mean the deals are being inspected more scrupously than
ever before! As an aside though these non-dental valuers are starting to
get more comparable evidence and are talking to the brokers more so
things are getting easier! All of the banks are also getting more
competitive which is always a good thing!
Fourthly, Dental Recruitment has changed, there has been a shift in
demand, our permanent recruitment is perhaps quieter than last year as
there are more dentists in the marketplace and less tender activity.
However, with the PCTs looking to thrash the axe, practices are more and
more keen to be on target and ensure they are always open in line with
their contract so our Locum Recruitment is busier than ever! The busiest
I have seen in 8 years in the industry, so given that we are not in the
last three months of the financial year yet, we're predicting bigger
things for 2012!
And so to 2012! Well for Dental Elite we are planning more growth even with a second dip looming perhaps!
- We have already recruited a new Business Development Consultant
who is joining the team at the End of January - a growth recruitment.
- We will be launching some drastic changes to our Dental Practices
for Sale elements of our website before the Dentistry Show so that all
of the practices are on here which our current facility doesn't allow us
to do!
- We will be launching our new iPhone App for Dental Jobs and Practices for Sale in the New Year.
- We will be linking up with another big dental provider to improve our dental practices for sale offering.
- We will again be working with Dentist Seminars to extend the
Making the Most of Your Dental Business Series into the Spring and
relaunching Buying the Right Dental Business.
- We have already announced that we will be Sponsors of the
Dentistry Show in 2012 and will be presenting on the Friday of the show.
So in the interim we wish you all an very Happy Christmas and are looking forward to an exciting 2012!

Hello again, well it is Sunday Night as we bring you our latest musings from Elite Towers and it is fair to say last week wasn't one of our better weeks having dubbed last week; Dust Week!. Especially when a power surge sent our all of our IP-based phone system into haywire mode and then our wonderful telephone providers diverted all of our phones to some called 'Sue' - we don't know who you are, we just know you your on the Virgin Network and we apologise to everyone who might have got Sue on Friday Morning last week! (Although our Sue is still alive and well! - this is just a different one.)
However, the Making the Most of Your Dental Business Series successfully commenced again with the first of four consecutive thursday night seminars. We are nearly ready to annouce the dates for the continuation of this series into the Spring of next year.
Elsewhere, it is fair to say that the recruitment market is a little quieter than the norm at this stage but we still have a busy locum business so thanks to all of the Locums who are busy in parts of the country I doubt some of them had heard of prior to the assignment. Practice Sales though remains resilient as ever so if you are considering buying - why not join us in Birmingham next week. Or if your selling - why not come along to the Making the Most of Your Dental Business Series before Christmas.

Good Afternoon to everyone. I write this blog standing in the Internet Cafe at the British Orthodontic Society Web Cafe in Harrogate. Its quite amusing that almost everyone is out of sync given that the conference started on Sunday and no-one can quite get their head round that it is only Tuesday now. Something tells me this is going to be a long week. Still we can't complain - having agreed five practice sales in the last 24 hours - a new company record!
The BOS is an event that seems to have been well attended by many of the Orthodontic Alumni and it has been nice to say hello again to a lot of our Orthodontic client base - particularly the two who have recently had sales agreed and are excited about the future ahead given that there appears to be an air of pessimism about the new Orthodontic Contract and the likelihood that they will have to tender for their goodwill in the coming months.
For us this is the first marketing event of what looks as if it is going to be a very tiring autumn season with an over-subscribed seminar at South Lodge to follow on Thursday Evening. If you are interested in attending there are another six repetitions of this seminar before Christmas with more to follow in the New Year. We will also be launching Buying the Right Dental Business in Birmingham on the 18th November for those at the other end of their dental career pathways.
All in all it's been nice to spend a few days in the beautiful city of Harrogate and life without VPN and Wi-Fi has allowed us to consider how to improve our service offering over the coming months. Although, I'm sure my waistline would prefer it without the Shortbread accompaniments.
Hopefully see you all over the autumn.

Hello,
We haven't blogged for a while so thought I'd write a quick summary of activity in Dental Elite towers. We are now in Mid-July and the Marketing Marathon that was the last three months seems to be running us off our feet. We're taking new instructions on practices almost daily and practices that the Elite Buyers are snapping up which demonstrates how competition is still fraught in the market.
Equally recruitment are busy finding this years crop of FDs their next post and we've just signed off an arrangement with Dentist Seminars that we see seven more Making the Most of Your Dental Business events in the Autumn. As soon as all the venues and speakers are finalised we will update the website but I can tell you the first event will be in Horsham on the 29th September.
You will also see that the More Than Just an NHS Contract is shortly to be published in both PPD and Dentinal Tubules over the coming weeks and have now also agreed to become a monthly contributor to dentinaltubules.com from September onwards so if there is a specific theme your interested in. Please do let us know.
On a final note we're off to DPAS's 15th Birthday Celebration tomorrow so Congratulations to Andrew, Quentin et al! Looking forward to drinks tomorrow afternoon.

Although this was Dental Elite's first BDA Conference I have personally exhibited at the BDA conference for the past five years and every year I never know what to expect. I try to make predictions on the type of referrals we're most likely to receive or the audience who are most likely to be attending, and I must say that this year is the first year I had it wrong.
A couple of things in particular struck me about the BDA show this year, I was surprised that the delegate numbers on the ground seemed generally low including during the designated break and exhibition times and after speaking with several other exhibitors this was the general consensus.
However, although the quantity wasn't there the quality most certainly was, we spoke to a wide variety of well-qualified professionals at different stages in their careers, from Foundation Dentists looking beyond the summer through to a number of potential vendors looking for healthchecks. There was a wide variety in good enquiries.
I spoke briefly with the events manager at the BDA and I was actually surprised to hear that the show this year had less exhibitors than last year and I suppose the argument must be now whether the BDA just provides a ground to maintain a presence for your existing client base or whether it is a successful exhibition for generating new business. I do feel that for Dental Elite as a relatively new name, the BDA was a great place to get our name recognised, but I whether the BDA have the same effect year on year?
Overall the show was success for us and thank you to all who attended our stand.

Dental Elite are gearing up for a busy Dental Conference later this
week. We will be on stand D6 at G-Mex. The conference is the launchpad
for our RIP Percentage of Turnover Valuations Awareness Campaign.
We have become all too aware most recently that some vendors are
under-selling their dental practices, mis-advised by brokers who have
failed to acquire the skills required for modern dental practice
valuations. Equally Buyers have been purchasing practices ill-advised of
the true profitability of the practice in the longer term. The fact is
dental practice valuations have moved on and are now based on multiples
of adjusted profitability. It is simply not true that a practice with
the same turnover but with differing UDA values are worth the same! The
fact is, if you have a higher UDA value you are nearly always worth
considerably more than 100% of Gross Fees.
For more information, please read our Practice Healthcheck page or come and see us over the weekend.
Please remember we also apply these principles to Valuations for
Incorporation and Strategic Buyer Valuations where we do not represent
the vendor.

The Bank Holidays are finished for now giving us chance to recouperate from the trauma that was the end of the financial year (our busiest time for Dental Practice Sales and our Locum Desk) and we're now busy gearing up for a marathon marketing month. In May & June we have 7 seminars and 2 conferences.
Just thought I'd check in and ask you to come and say hello if you are at any of the Dentist Seminars, BDA or LDC Events over the coming weeks. Also, look out for quite a few articles that will be hitting the dental press over the coming weeks.
Other news; we're busy planning for our team day out to the Malmaison next week. A whole day training on the latest dental legislation and protocols followed by a few (or probably quite a lot) or swift ones in the Comedy Club after.
Bye for now.

April 19, 2011
Whilst your surfing our new site if you own a Dental Practice why not have a look at the Dental Practice Healthcheck page, we are currently busy visiting practices all over the county. Infact in the next 24 hours I'm visiting South Yorkshire, London, Southampton and Dorset!
This is a free service even if your not considering selling in the immediate future. From recent healthchecks we have helped one practice recruit 40 new patients in one week, previously their average was 3, helped one practice reclaim their business rates from the DPB which they weren't doing before and increased one vendors purchase price by £150,000!
Perhaps it is time you had a healthcheck?
